The
Clone Tool, Healing Brush and Spot Healing Brush
with Photoshop CS-4
The Video runs for
34 minutes

The Clone Tool, the Healing Brush
and the Spot Healing Brushes are tools we will be
using in almost every image we produce. Using those
tools effectively needs to become second nature
to us. In their general use they are pretty simple
to use, but in this video we demonstrate the very
best ways to use these tools for the ultimate results.
Starting Image
Our starting image taken in Malta
on the Mediterranean looks a pretty nice shot, but
fisherman use plastic bottles as floats to tie up
their boats and the harbour looks like it is full
of litter. This takes away much of the charm of
this scene and it is a prime example of where the
clone tool needs to be used. At least one of the
bottles is hard against a boat, so we need to be
able to clone in that location without damaging
the boat and we also have a crane on the skyline
to get rid off. Add to that a few dust marks in
the sky and we have more then enough here to keep
us occupied for a while. You can see some of what
we mean in the two enlargements below.

We use a new blank layer for our
demonstration to make sure all the work we do is
not fully applied to the image until we are ready.
This is a great way to work for the newer user of
Photoshop and the experienced too. Our end result
is a clutter free harbour and a far better picture.
The difference we can make is obvious in our final
image. The clone tool is a fairly simple tool, but
with a few tips and tricks it can be far more effective.
