Creative Digital Photography

We hear the words Creative Digital Photography quite a bit, but what does it actually mean. Its probably means different things to different people, but to us it means creating images that would generally be considered image with appeal, impact and above average.

We think you need three skills to do this. We need our Photographic skills, technical and composition, but we also need to know what makes a good picture. We need to know that before we press the shutter button, but we also need to know what makes a great picture when we look at the thumbnails we have shot. Unless we can appreciate the digital negatives we have captured, how can we get the best from them.
Finally, we need Photoshop skills to to be able to create our final image. Someone said recently that the original raw file is our score, but the final image we create is our symphony. This is exactly what we have been saying for years and we even used the term digital negative long before Adobe and others did. We have always seen the press of the shutter button being the starting point of making our symphony. This disk touches on all these skills

A quick thank you for the Techniques and Manipulation disk that arrived this morning. Although I have not yet had the chance to see it all, I can already tell that, in my opinion, it is the best one yet. The exposure and bracketing section is an excellent refresher course and reminds amateurs like me about many things we have forgotten, or maybe got lazy about.
The Pelican section is brilliant - and that is as far as I have got.
